Homeschool Curriculum
There are many options for parent led curriculum. Sometimes selecting the right one can seem overwhelming. Below we have recommended a few options to consider, but there are many more. Attending a homeschool convention can be helpful, because often the publishers will have their materials on display in the vendor hall. Parents who enroll their children in a PSP or a Charter School will receive assistance in understanding curriculum options and selecting the right one for each child.
BJU Press Homeschool
BJU Press publishes curriculum in all subjects for students in grades K-12. Parents can teach the coursework themselves by following the teacher’s guide. However, they also offer the option to purchase pre-recorded video lessons for each course. The video lessons coordinate with the textbooks and other materials. Families using BJU Press curriculum have access to an online organizational tool called Homeschool Hub. There is an optional accredited program called The Academy of Home Education. BJU Press curriculum is taught from a Christian perspective, and it has a traditional American approach to education.
Memoria Press
Memoria Press publishes curriculum in all subjects for students in grades K-12. Parents teach the coursework themselves by following the teacher’s guide. Memoria Press curriculum is taught through the classical method. Textbooks include a Christian perspective, but they also publish a charter school version, which excludes religious references and therefore may be purchased with charter school funds.
Sonlight
Sonlight publishes curriculum in all subjects for students in grades K-12. Parents teach the coursework themselves by following the teacher’s guide. Sonlight curriculum has a Christian perspective and each subject is taught through foundation in literature. This is sometimes referred to as the Charlotte Mason method.
Classical Academic Press
Classical Academic Press publishes curriculum in all subjects for students in grades K-12. Parents teach the coursework themselves by following the teacher’s guide. This curriculum is taught through the classical method.
Institute for Excellence in Writing
IEW publishes language arts curriculum for students in grades 3-12. Public charter school funds may be used to purchase their products.
Learning to Read
Leapfrog Letter Factory is a great video for teaching the alphabet to young children. After kids are familiar with all the sounds and letters, a good resource is Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons. Also, many families start reading with the Bob Books.
Teaching Textbooks
Teaching Textbooks publishes math curriculum for students in grades 3-12. Lessons are self paced and online, but textbooks are also available. Parents can easily track students’ progress through their app.
Beast Academy
Beast Academy publishes math curriculum for students in grades 1-6 (approximately). The textbooks are fun graphic novels featuring monsters. They also offer a companion online program with prerecorded instruction videos and math games to reinforce lessons. Older students may continue studying math through their program called The Art of Problem Solving.
Saxon Math
Saxon Math is a comprehensive math curriculum for students in grades K-12. Many publishers have included this program as the math component within a complete grade kit. It is available for purchase from multiple sources.
Rainbow Resources
Rainbow Resources is a great place to explore curriculum options. They sell products from most publishers and have a good search function for sorting through subjects and grade levels.
