Many homeschooling families choose to join a public charter school. Basically, each enrolled student is allotted $3,000-$4,000 per year. This money may be applied to curriculum or extra curricular activities such as sports or piano lessons. Parents are able to direct how the funds will be spent. Although parents are responsible for the child’s education, each family is assigned to a certified public school teacher who monitors the child’s progress and provides support to the parents. The charter schools provide state testing, field trips and other learning opportunities. Charter school students may not enroll in a PSP or with HSLDA.
